FORMA FEATURE / EYES & ORBITEyelids & eye aperture: measurements, ratios, and research
Eye aperture is the opening between the lids. Upper-lid exposure, lid crease, globe prominence, and lower-lid position are separate features. This page separates published measurements from interpretation, preference experiments, and community speculation.
What eyelids & eye aperture means
Eye aspect ratio = inner-to-outer corner width ÷ vertical opening through the pupil. Upper-lid show measures visible skin below the crease, not the entire brow-to-eye distance.
Facial measurements only become comparable when the view, head position, soft-tissue landmarks, and endpoint definitions are held constant. A number copied from a profile photograph is not interchangeable with a value measured from a clinical scan or a front-facing portrait.
Official measurements, ratios & competing claims
3 : 1 A forum eye-shape claim
A forum poster describes Jeremy Meeks as having a 3:1 eye aspect ratio.
Forum claim: Not independently measured. Squinting, gaze, expression, and camera position can substantially change this ratio. Discussion of Jeremy Meeks’ canthal tilt
Practical takeaway
Read a supported lower lid and relaxed eye opening.
A lower lid meeting the lower iris is the concrete appearance illustrated by the selected sample. Evaluate upper-lid exposure separately from the width-to-height opening.
What changes the answer
Gaze, squinting, globe prominence, and brow position alter these measurements. Naturally hooded and more exposed upper lids need different comparisons; forcing a squint does not measure resting shape.
Use these ranges to ask a better question about proportion—not to grade a face or choose a procedure by number alone. A qualified clinician still needs to examine function, tissue, skeletal structure, and your goals in person.
